Well what a week this has been. Conditioning, planning, discussions with PR management agencies and sponsorship packs sent to perspective sponsors!! In between this I've trained technique drills in the pool, rested, eaten nice carbs and fruit; even had some physio input to ease the muscles and knots!
Meanwhile, Dan @ The Gym in Cheltenham is pushing me gently on, building the baseline, and his input is priceless!! The gym work mixed with swim training is yielding big results and over the next 24 months will only better equip me for the challenge ahead; swimming The Atlantic Ocean and all she has to throw at me.
Of note, local interest is building and our first radio mention/potential interview on Radio WInchcombe 107.1FM came about as a result of Dan Fivey. Dan's shout out received the same reaction as many who have met me at my daughter's school; in the gyms; swimming pools and even in the park: "Wow!" or "You're a fool," that's crazy," or, "... it is impossible ..."
Well yes, I may be mad, a fool, crazy but NO; it is not impossible.
With an amazing support and training team alongside me, my ethos of training hard and achieving all I can, overcoming any obstacles, is all I need to ensure this expedition is possible. Remember, the SOS children I seek to support overcome massive challenges and objects of negativity in their everyday lives. Obstructions we take for granted, such as a lack of water, food, sub-standard environments and even a lack of family support and even warfare or local conflict. As with my other charity Macmillan Cancer support UK, I am inspired and driven by those who find themselves faced with such challenges, diagnosed with a cancer or those I have met recently who have survived and are in remission. It is for all of these individuals and the many like them worldwide, that I aim to demonstrate anything is possible with determination, training and planning. Especially, as I know what it is to lose a close loved one to the big 'C'. In just twelve-weeks, my Aunty Chrissy went from falling over to leaving us all with wonderful memories. Memories of her world class chocolate hedgehog cake, laughter, and sounds from all the Queen vinyl albums she had collected to date. Chrissy, all my training and efforts are for you and all of those who battle cancer and daily challenges in their life - Dream, Live and Achieve!!
